One Planet Living

If everyone lived like an average North American we would need 5 planets. If everyone lived like an average European we would need 3 planets. If everyone lived like an average Emirati we would need 10 planets.

Our global footprint grew by 60%between 1961 and 2003. It is now 20% above the planets biological capacity to support life on earth.

The WWF has developed an initiative called one planet living. It has 10 guiding principles.

1- Zero Carbon: because of the human and his activity the atmosphere contain a lot of CO2

2- Zero Waste: When human waste a lot of products this may cause a huge problem like waste for wastes valuable resources.

3- Sustainable Transport: When the people travel by cars or plane he made an air and noise pollution

4- Local and Sustainable Materials: From using Destructive resources we damage a lot the environment.

5- Local and Sustainable Food: the food we get it from the agriculture and had bad quality may cause lot problems and harms local ecosystems.

6- Sustainable Water: Because of increasing of population the demand of fresh water were increased but the there are not enough freshwater.

7- Natural Habitats and Wildlife: Using a lot of biodiversity cause a lack of natural recourse.

8- Culture and heritage: As a result of globalization, local culture and heritage is being lost.

9- Equity and Fair-trade: A lot of people live under the line of poverty and they can’t have their basic needs.

10- Health and Happiness: A lot of people think they live in healthy and life full of happiness

I think the first one is the most difficult one because I think it hard to have a city that contains 0 CO2.

The three goals of the One Planet living programme here are:

1- Zero Carbon

2- Health and Happiness

3- Culture and Heritage
